Goodbye Mitt...

The Washington Post is reporting that Mitt Romney is ending his quest for the Republican nomination.

This means that John McCain is now the unofficial Republican nominee and he will be able to sail smoothly through the remaining primaries and caucuses while stockpiling money and not having the burden of ducking attacks from Romney. McCain will be able to save all of his energy for the general election battle against either Clinton or Obama.

With Romney dropping out the dynamics of the upcoming general election are dramatically changed. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are going to continue to fight to the bitter end, wasting valuable money and good reputations. John McCain on the other hand will not have to deal with a serious opponent.

The Democrats need to take a cue from the Republicans on the art of bowing out of a race to ensure that maximum resources can be utilized for the general. It is not something that Democrats have ever been good at and is not something that either Clinton or Obama will be persuaded to do easily.

Things may be looking up for the GOP.

I'm just curious who you think between Hillary and Obama should be the one to drop out. I mean they both have a shot at the nomination and the resources to do it.

The Democrats HAVE done what you said, that's why there were only two of them left going into Super Tuesday. Right now, Mike Huckabee is needling John McCain for no good reason (aside from my own enjoyment), while HillForce One and Obama both have perfectly good reasons to Fight On...

I am curious, too, as to who you think should drop out between Obama and Hillary? I'll admit that I was somewhat surprised to find out Romney had dropped out at this time, but then again it was going to eventually occur since the numbers that McCain was posting and the numbers that Romney was posting were of no comparison. Obama and Clinton on the other hand are neck in neck (especially after todays wins in Nebraska, Washington, and Lousiana and the U.S. Virgin Islands by Obama)and for one to preemptively drop out would just seem to be...pointless.Just my thoughts!

And how about that Hucakbee? haha
